Tried some perspective / architecture drawing since those are two of my biggest roadblocks in art.
What you see here is about half the sketch since my scanner is not bigger than A4.

After two hours this is what I came up with and I am pretty surprised  of the result, what started out as a terrible, inaccurate and generally bad line drawing with a ruler became this after some love and care.

I think with some more study and some help getting the base structures done with perspective I could become pretty good at this after a few weeks.

Another one done, Smeagol joker card.

These are pretty fun to make, they may not be more than sketches but I think it might work.

If and when I have created all the cards I might try to make more finished and clean outlines, nothing complex but a little cleaner than lots of sketchy lines.

I always wanted to draw playing cards, here is a design of mine inspired by J.R.R Tolkien's world, an ace with how I vision the dragon Smaug, a rune A and a typical map mountain instead of a heart.

And mushrooms never gets old, always fun to draw and experiment with.

Just browsing the last pages of my K.E.M sketchbook number two and I keep find sketches like this with interesting features like the lines used here combined with watercolor.

This is not exactly my best sketch but I find something about this kind of hypnotic, my eye travels to every corner investigating for some reason.
I think it has to do with the huge contrast, the equally sized shapes and the alignment, but I am not sure.

There is something in this sketch that needs to be revealed so I can use the illusion again on purpose.

A pretty gem was hidden in my sketchbook, all it needed was some care and color to stand out among the many grey pages I have created.

The kind of sketching I do while riding the train, one can always find interesting people with the strangest characteristics to play around with in your sketchbook.

Another fairytale concept piece.
Alice in wonderland.

I feel I am starting to get the hang of this and I believe I will be able to make good digital artworks before this Christmas is over.

More fast fairytale sketches.
Little Red riding hood and the big bad wolf.

mandag 24. desember 2012

A colored sketch I doodled within 3 - 5 minutes.
I kinda like the pastelish colors.

increasing my digital skills a little every day.
This is conceptual art for an Ashlad fairytale I might work on next semester.

So here is the first result of making a poster in the famous Grand Theft Auto art style.
I am only completely done with the head, the rest is at an early stage.
This was only a test to fully finish the style so therefore I probably won't work more on this poster.
Now I can start making my original posters as soon as I find someone who are willing to pose for reference pictures.

If you want to see or learn how I made this I posted seven screenshots from my progress earlier.

I do not own this character, logo or quote.
The caracter "Vaas" and the Far Cry 3 logo and the quote belongs to Ubisoft.
This is my tutorial / process for the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) poster style.
I took these screenshots mainly for myself so that I can go back and see what I did in chase I forget, but I noticed there are few good tutorials on painting in this style and therefore I decided to share my 7 steps with others who might find these use full.

This is mainly a "trace" of a Far Cry 3 poster, I usually do not trace pictures and especially not unless I have taken the picture but this was an exception as I found this to be the easiest way to learn and experience the style I wanted.

Here is another result of my new digital beginning.

Hopefully I will get better quite soon.

Altho I love painting with watercolor and acrylic paint I feel the only way I will ever get a job within concept art I need to master digital painting.

I decided to spend this vacation on getting better with digital painting.
Here is the result of just a few days practice.

My goal is to be able to paint in the style of Grand Theft Auto's artwork style before school starts again.

Two new entries for my little self challenge to re create stereotypes to potential animation film characters.
Here is the concept of General Sig, the meanest grasshopper around.

Looking forward to create more with this guy, I got a pretty cool idea from making these sketches too.

A quick sketch of Scrooge just for fun.
I need to focus on more than just the head on my characters for the future I see.
Trying out some mixed techniques, I mainly wanted to learn to draw and paint fog but it turned out to look more like snow to me.
I still don't get the backgrounds right but I bet if I start making backgrounds and main motives (like the monster and fog clouds here) in separate pieces I can get better results and a collection of backgrounds I can use over and over again.

I wanted to make a small challenge for myself and this challenge is to simply make human stereotypes into animals who fit the stereotype the best as if I were to make doodles for an animated movie.

So far I got two versions of a typical stoner as a sloth.

I don't have a lot to say about this sketch except I like concept of this crazy guy, perhaps this might become a character for a comic page or something some day.
Nothing more use full than creating small worlds with environments and characters you can take out and use in practical situations later.

Clyde! Some intern humor around this fluffy fella, he's been on some crazy adventures as me and my friends have made up stories while sitting on the train every day.
Kinda like his face, I think I am about to leap over to a new skill level in drawing.

So here is the first of the posters for Moller's Tran.
This was just a school assignment.
The dragons used behind the bottle was actually just some watercolor sketches, I guess I was lucky to make them good enough to use in the finished product.
This character, the viking boy was a character I designed a long time ago so once gain I was lucky for I didn't have to spend time designing him.
The viking boy is not very good drawn here unfortunately because of the upcoming deadline and I had to use him in this illustration.

I find colorful dragons pretty fun to paint so I bet there will be more of those in the future.

Logo belongs to Moller's Tran.
Here is the second of the posters for Moller's Tran.
This was just a school assignment.
Of ll the three posters this one must be my favorite, if I had more time I would fix the blue background to look more smooth, except that I am pretty pleased with this one.

So here is the third of the posters for Moller's Tran.
This was just a school assignment.
I am not too satisfied with these posters but due to short deadline I had to rush the early process in order to get these done.

onsdag 28. november 2012

This one I sketched up on watercolor paper, cleaned up a bit, painted and then inked and photoshopped.

If I go with this style I will also add a viking in the saddle but I am not sure if I like this style with the ink lines, I really liked the other dragons I made with paint only. But they are harder to control and may not be so accurate and clear.

Sketch of one of three new posters I'm working on.
Had a pretty nice line here I think.

mandag 26. november 2012

Tried out a clean yet sketchy effect with loose watercolor, gotta say the style works well with chaotic or  threatening illustrations.

søndag 25. november 2012

More mushrooms.
I think this style is something that needs a lot of work but will defiantly be worth improving, it is simple, fast, full of expression and communicates easily.

Mushrooms, such mysterious growth.
Testing out the same technique I used on the dragons but with environment, results are pretty cool I think.

lørdag 24. november 2012

Seems I am improving a lot and fast too.
I was going to try sketching with paint and I chose the theme dragons and this is what I got.
The colors looks much better on the original painting than the edited one here, this is an issue I need to focus on next because I simply cant allow myself to make something good and let the digital color be what ruins the piece.
It is no secret that I am awaiting The Hobbit to hit the theaters soon!
Here is a speed painting of Smog, the fearsome dragon who guards the dwarves gold in the mountain.
I also too the liberty of adding the song from the trailer just to make this piece a little more whole.

I like how I keep improving with watercolor and I hope that I can get closer to perfection this winter before I work on what I have been preparing for so long.

A quick anatomy study I chose to make into early conceptual art of a warrior.
I might try to ink and shade this properly just to see what I can make out it.

fredag 23. november 2012

I feel I am starting to get somewhere now.
I like a couple of the ink lines in this one, these speed illustrations really helps me find new elements I can take with me later.

Well this turned out as a pretty fun poster I think.
I can come up with a dozen of things I could have improved tho.
Even tho there is a lot of bad work here I kind of like it.

The product is Möllers Tran, a type of fish oil from a Norwegian company.
Duke Nukem is a video game character well known "to be all that is man"

This was just a part of a school assignment and therefore not an official poster.

torsdag 22. november 2012

About ten minutes of watercolor and ink.
All in all a bad painting but I learn so much from doing these experiments and there is nothing better than doing something like this when I have no idea what to draw.
Part of my next Tran poster.
I figured I wanted the poster to speak to old school videogamers and who is more a suited badass than Duke Nukem himself?

This was made with pencil (2B), watercolor paper,  watercolor and indian ink.
Edited in photoshop.

I like the result, I am starting to understand watercolor and how I can use it more properly.
I believe with a little more experience this style would be perfect for several illustration jobs.

onsdag 21. november 2012

Experimental watercolor.
Tried to fuel the painting with what I felt in the moment as I improvised from start to finish.
Not a good painting, but I need all the experience I can possibly gain in order to master watercolor.

Another quick watercolor painting, more experience as I see how the painting works on tp of each other and how there actually is a limit to layers of paint.

tirsdag 20. november 2012

Well at least my demo poster looks better than the original.
Tried to gain the curiosity of teen gamers and get them to drink Tran.
This is just one of five demo posters I have to make.

I think it is safe to cll this one of my biggest failures of the year, I thought I knew what to do after the last big painting but it didn't work now either, good thing the drawing itself only took a few minutes so I lost nothing doing this.

I think I am blind to what I do wrong to make these pictures so terrible but I aim to find out and that fast.

My goal is to master watercolor into the next level during this christmas.

I must improve in order to succeed.
