And here is the result painted in watercolor.

I am not happy with the result at all.

I am not sure why but this happens in every piece I make with watercolor, it becomes flat and boring with no contrast at all as if someone just took a few colors and smeared it round layer for layer.

I need to work more with watercolor in order to improve, the insects I made recently I was quite happy with, maybe I need to work in smaller pieces, perhaps if I drew and painted a tree and other objects separately then put everything together in photoshop? 

Perhaps I need to use more pure black and white, hard colors straight on?

Or perhaps all this need is the same as what nailed those insects, squiggly ink lines instead of pencil lines? 

Only one way to improve.
